How to reach Andaman from Kolkata

By air

Carriers like IndiGo and Air India fly Kolkata to Port Blair in about 2h, non-stop, no connection to manage. Fares move with the season, so ₹4,100 is a starting point, not a promise — we'll quote your exact dates when you get in touch.

By sea

Regular passenger ships also run from Kolkata Port to Port Blair, for travellers who'd rather sail than fly. It's a considerably longer trip — usually 60 to 70 hours, depending on the vessel and weather — so most people do it once, for the crossing itself, not as the practical way to arrive. Tickets are booked through the Directorate of Shipping Services, the Andaman administration’s own booking portal.

Best time to visit

Flying in from Kolkata, the calendar matters more than the route. October to May is the reliable window: calm seas, every ferry running on schedule, and the best underwater visibility for diving and snorkelling. December to February is peak season and the most booked-out, so lock ferries and hotels early if you're travelling then. June to September is the south-west monsoon — Port Blair itself stays visitable, but inter-island ferries get cancelled at short notice, so it's the one stretch we'd steer a first-time visitor away from.

Essential tips for travelling to the Andamans

  • ATMs are common in Port Blair, sparse on the outer islands — carry enough cash for island-hopping days.

  • Cards work at hotels and bigger resorts; jetties, beach shacks and small vendors are cash-only.

  • Foreign nationals need a Restricted Area Permit — we arrange it the moment you land, no separate visa for the islands themselves.

  • Airtel, BSNL and Jio cover Port Blair and the main islands; expect signal gaps on the remoter ones.

  • Ferries can be cancelled at short notice in the June–September monsoon — worth building in a spare day either side.

Good to know

Questions travellers from Kolkata ask

Is there a direct flight from Kolkata to Port Blair?

Yes — Kolkata is one of the handful of Indian cities with non-stop service to Veer Savarkar International Airport, around 2h in the air.

What documents do I need?

Any government photo ID — Aadhaar, PAN or driving licence — is enough for Indian nationals; Port Blair is domestic travel, no passport or permit required. Foreign nationals need a valid passport, and we arrange the Restricted Area Permit on arrival.

When's the best time to fly out from Kolkata?

October to May, for calm ferries and clear diving water — December and January book out first, so it's worth locking dates a few weeks ahead of everyone else.

Does the package include the flight?

Our package prices are for the islands — stays, ferries, permits and transfers. Tell us your dates from Kolkata and we'll quote the flight alongside it, so you see one number, not two invoices.

Can I use my phone and get a local SIM in Andaman?

Yes — Airtel, BSNL and Jio all cover Port Blair and the main islands, with BSNL usually the most reliable in the smaller places. Signal thins out on the far-flung islands, so treat those days as a good excuse to be offline.

What should I pack?

Light, breathable clothing, swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and sturdy sandals for jetties and rocky shorelines. Bring any personal medication with you — pharmacies outside Port Blair are limited.
